SLOW AND STEADY

A new work I’ve begun, “What’s Happening is Really Happening”. This is one of my first attempts at a large portrait, an attempt to begin transitioning to larger works and installations, which is my eventual goal. Starting with my own photographs, I transferred the contour drawing onto the fabric and begin stitching from there, using thousands of dots and dashes. Strangely, I’ve been working from a black and white photograph. Normally I would use color but this being larger, I wanted to be able to easily identify blocks of shades and highlights. I’ve been making steady progress on this piece for a month and I believe it will be several more before the image comes to fruition. And yes, that is a hole in the fabric.
