Two recently finished pieces have explored the concept of “sensory overload”, which is something that affects not only people who have anxiety disorders, but those with Fibromyalgia, ADHD, Multiple Sclerosis, and Autism. With these works I wanted to capture that moment when your senses completely consume you. I think “Stupor” is a great visual description of that moment. Everything shines as bright as the sun, sounds are amplified to a volume that makes you flinch when someone is simply whispering in your ear. Pain vibrates through you and your thoughts are in complete disarray as your brain tries to process everything. I’ve described it as an atomic bomb inside my head. For “Inundated” I really emphasized light and color by using vibrant, intense shades. Even the stylization of the figure’s hair denotes mania. She covers her ears trying to block the sound waves reverberating in her head and the hollows of her bones. Her eyes are no longer her own, but stars, supernovas bursting before her and within her.
