For me, the meaning behind my work is just as important as the image itself. A huge part of my process is recording events, reactions, emotions, and dreams; evolving them into compelling images. A current work in progress, Delicate, deals with suppressed emotions, specifically rage. Societal expectations developed over hundreds of years has encouraged women to be docile and agreeable. Always presentable, never a hair out of place. My use of a delicate vintage handkerchief and embroidery emphasizes the feminine and contrasts the intensity of the portrait itself. Breaking through the stereotyped delicate sensibilities of the female figure and making way for raw emotion.
